Through The Wall is a performative workshop led by Ukrainian artist Daria Pugachova that engages with states of fear/freedom through visual and performance art.
The workshop is based on Daria’s experience of war in Ukraine and communicates both the war that happened in her country and the internal struggles between fear and freedom within each individual. Guided by Daria’s instructions, you are invited to express your Fear through collective drawing, sharing it with others and gaining support from the community. Facing your Fear, you’ll enter the area of Freedom, where you explore this state through voice, body, and simple presence.
Previous editions of this performance happened in Bulgaria and Croatia, as part of the WE SEE UKRAINE project. A new edition was developed specifically for UKM and its audiences to process the insecurities of young people on this complex journey to adulthood.
«Performance art and participation offers a playful and soft approach to process these complex emotions and insecurities you might have in life. I invite you to step into the shadowed area of Fear, shed light on it, and embrace it. Because, there, on the other side of the wall, you might find Freedom».
